Septic Tanks: Four Tips to Protect Them

HomeBlogSeptic Tanks: Four Tips to Protect Them

Septic tanks are vital parts to many homes. Septic tanks need to be cared for with regular maintenance and proper use. To help all of our customers keep properly functioning septic tanks, we are providing you with the following tips:

  •  Water Consumption – It is very important to be mindful of how much water your home is using. It is easy to forget all the times your home is putting water into your septic tank. High water consumption activities include bathing, dishes, washing clothes, watering the grass, and brushing teeth. Keeping water consumption down helps to preserve the correct balance of water to waste and allows for proper and complete disposal of both.

Septic Tanks: Four Tips to Protect Them

  • Don’t Flush Everything – Not everything can be flushed or drained into your septic tank. There are several materials that are extremely detrimental to the health and function of all septic tanks. We highly recommend that you never put drain cleaners, paint solvents, motor oils, or grease into your septic system.
  • Don’t Plant or Build Over the Septic Tank – You should be aware of where your septic tank is and be mindful to never build a structure on top of or park vehicles on top of it. The added weight can damage your septic system. Also, planting anything more than grass over your septic tank can damage it because the roots can find their way to the tank.
